Backflow testing Woodstock Ontario BSI registered tester pressure gauge

If you own or manage a property in Woodstock or Tillsonburg and you’ve received notice that your backflow prevention device needs testing, Triton Home Service can help. We hold active registration on the BSI Online backflow tracking system for both municipalities. So when your test is complete, we file your results directly into the system your municipality uses to track compliance.
I’m Aron Oretan — a licensed master plumber and registered backflow tester serving Woodstock, Tillsonburg, and Oxford County. Here’s everything you need to know about backflow testing in your area.
What Is Backflow Testing and Why Is It Required in Woodstock Ontario
A backflow prevention device stops water from flowing backwards through your plumbing system. Specifically, it protects the municipal water supply from contamination by preventing water that has passed through your building from re-entering the public water main.
Annual backflow testing is mandatory across Ontario — including Woodstock and Tillsonburg. The Ontario Building Code and each municipality’s backflow prevention program enforce this requirement locally. Furthermore, a tester registered with your specific municipality must perform that testing. A tester registered in London but not on the Woodstock or Tillsonburg system cannot file your results correctly.
That distinction matters more than most property owners realize.
What Is the BSI Online System and Why Does It Matter
BSI Online is a backflow reporting and tracking platform that municipalities across Ontario use to manage their backflow prevention programs. Both Woodstock and Tillsonburg use BSI Online to track which properties have testable devices, when tests are due, and whether compliant results have been filed.
When your backflow test is complete, the results don’t just go to you — they need to go into the BSI system so your municipality can confirm compliance. As a result, your tester must be registered on BSI Online for your specific municipality. If they lack BSI registration for your municipality, they cannot file your results correctly — and your property remains non-compliant even after a successful test
Triton Home Service holds active BSI Online registration for both Woodstock and Tillsonburg. So when we complete your test, we file your results directly into your municipality’s tracking system. You stay compliant and your records update immediately
One thing to note — BSI Online charges a filing fee per report. Because of that fee, you will see a small additional charge on your invoice when we file your results through the BSI system. However, that fee is the cost of proper compliance filing and there is no way around it for properties in these municipalities.
Who Needs Backflow Testing in Woodstock and Tillsonburg
The requirements in Woodstock and Tillsonburg follow Ontario-wide standards. Commercial, industrial, and institutional properties with testable backflow prevention devices must test them annually. Furthermore, residential properties with in-ground irrigation systems also require annual testing.
If you’ve received a notice from your municipality, your property has a testable device on record. The notice will tell you what type of device you have and when your test is due. Because Triton is registered on the BSI system for your municipality, we handle the complete process from testing through to filing.
Why Your Backflow Tester Must Be BSI Registered for Woodstock and Tillsonburg
This is the detail that trips up many property owners in Oxford County. Not every backflow tester who operates in Southwestern Ontario holds BSI registration for Woodstock and Tillsonburg specifically. A tester can be fully qualified and registered in London — however without BSI Online registration for your municipality, they cannot file your results into the correct tracking system
Triton Home Service is registered on BSI Online for both Woodstock and Tillsonburg. So when we complete your test, your results go directly into the system your municipality uses to verify compliance. No gaps, No missing records. No compliance issues.
What Happens During a Backflow Test
When I arrive at your property, I connect my calibrated pressure differential gauge to your backflow prevention device. This gauge checks whether the device functions correctly by measuring pressure on both sides of the valve. The test typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the device type and accessibility.
I’ve owned my pressure differential gauge since I was an apprentice. It is registered and calibrated annually every December. Calibration isn’t just a formality — it’s the only way to guarantee that test results are accurate and defensible if your municipality ever audits your compliance records.
After the test, I document your results and file them directly into the BSI Online system on your behalf.
What Happens If Your Device Fails
If your backflow device fails the test, the municipality requires repair within 48 hours. That’s a tight window. If your tester is not a licensed plumber, you have an immediate problem — they can identify the failure but they cannot fix it. They must leave and you have to find a licensed plumber, schedule a second visit, and arrange a retest. All within 48 hours.
Backflow devices fail for several reasons. Springs wear out and lose tension over time. Rubber seals deteriorate. Valve seats become pitted. Internal components break down.
Why a Licensed Plumber Makes All the Difference in Woodstock and Tillsonburg
In most cases these repairs are possible on the spot — however only a licensed plumber can do that work legally. Because I’m both a registered backflow tester and a licensed master plumber, I handle failures differently. If your device fails, I open it on the spot, assess what went wrong, and repair it the same visit when possible. Then I retest it immediately and file the passing results into BSI Online before I leave.
One visit. One bill. No 48-hour scramble.
