One of the most common questions we get at Triton Home Service is some version of “how much is this going to cost me?” It’s a fair question. Plumbing pricing can feel unpredictable if you’ve never hired a plumber before. So I want to give you the honest answer β€” not a vague range, but how we actually price work in London Ontario and why.

I’m Aron Oretan β€” a Licensed Red Seal Plumber and Steamfitter with 26 years in the trade. Here’s what plumber costs in London Ontario actually look like and what drives them up or down.

The Two Ways Triton Prices Plumbing Work

There are two pricing models in the plumbing industry. Understanding the difference helps you know what to expect before anyone shows up at your door.

Flat rate pricing means you get a fixed price before work starts. You know exactly what you’re paying before we pick up a tool. For straightforward jobs β€” a toilet repair, a faucet replacement, a shut-off valve swap β€” flat rate works well. Furthermore, it protects you from surprises if the job takes longer than expected.

Time and material pricing means you pay for the plumber’s time plus the cost of parts. We use this approach when a job is complex or when we genuinely can’t predict what we’ll find until we’re into it. For example, if we open a wall and discover something unexpected β€” corroded pipe, improper previous repairs, materials that don’t meet current code β€” the scope of the job changes. In those cases, time and material is the honest approach.

For most standard service calls in London Ontario, we quote flat rate once we understand what’s needed. However if a job gets complicated, we switch to time and material so you’re paying for the actual work β€” not a guess.

The $89 Dispatch Fee β€” What It Covers and Why It Exists

Before any work starts, Triton charges an $89 dispatch fee to send a technician to your home.

I want to be straightforward about why that fee exists. Sending a qualified plumber to your home costs money before they touch a single pipe. At current gas prices, the dispatch fee barely covers the cost of getting my technician to your door. It’s not a profit centre β€” it’s the cost of showing up.

More importantly, it sets the right expectation. I don’t like sending technicians to someone’s home without the homeowner understanding they’re paying for that visit. The $89 gets a qualified Red Seal Plumber to your door to assess the situation and quote the work. If you decide to proceed, that quote is clear before anything starts. If you decide not to proceed, you’ve paid for an expert assessment of your plumbing situation β€” which has value on its own.

Can You Get a Quote Without a Service Call

Sometimes yes. If you’re willing to send photos β€” or better yet a short video β€” of what needs to be repaired, I’m often able to give you a price without coming to your home first. A clear photo of a leaking valve, a running toilet, or a dripping faucet can tell me a lot. A video showing the problem in action tells me even more.

If the photos give me enough confidence in what I’m looking at, I’ll quote it. However if the situation is unclear from photos alone, I’ll quote the dispatch fee so we can assess it properly in person. That’s the honest answer β€” I’m not going to guess at a price on something I can’t properly see.

Why Plumbing Costs Vary So Much in London Ontario

This is the question behind the question most homeowners are really asking. Why does one plumber quote $200 and another quotes $800 for what sounds like the same job?

A few reasons.

What’s visible isn’t always what’s there. A dripping faucet might be a simple washer replacement. It might also be a corroded valve seat that needs a new faucet entirely. A running toilet might need a $12 flapper. It might need a full internal rebuild. Until a qualified plumber looks at it, the actual scope is unknown.

Previous repairs change everything. London Ontario has a lot of older housing stock β€” particularly in Old South, Wortley Village, and Old East Village. In those homes, I regularly encounter previous DIY repairs or work done by unqualified contractors that complicates what should be a simple job. Furthermore, older materials sometimes can’t be repaired β€” they need to be replaced entirely.

Parts availability affects cost. Some older fixtures and valves require parts that aren’t stocked locally and need to be ordered. That adds time and cost.

Labour reflects expertise. A Licensed Red Seal Plumber and Steamfitter with 26 years of experience costs more per hour than an unlicensed handyman. However the work is done correctly, to code, and won’t need to be redone. In plumbing, cheap work almost always costs more in the long run.

The Most Expensive Mistake London Homeowners Make

I’ve seen it more times than I can count. A homeowner watches a YouTube video, decides a plumbing repair looks simple, and attempts it themselves. Sometimes it works out. Often it doesn’t.

Here’s the reality. I’ve been doing plumbing for 26 years. I make it look easy because I’ve done these jobs hundreds of times and I know every step before I start. What looks simple from the outside is the result of decades of experience and training β€” including five years teaching plumbing at Fanshawe College and certification through the United Association Instructor Training Program.

When homeowners attempt plumbing repairs without that foundation, common problems include using the wrong glue or materials for the pipe type, damaging parts during disassembly making them unusable, creating new leaks while trying to fix the original one, and voiding warranties on fixtures and appliances. As a result, what could have been a $200 repair becomes a $600 repair because I’m now fixing the original problem plus the damage from the DIY attempt.

I’m not saying never do anything yourself. I’m saying know your limits. If you’re not confident β€” call a plumber before you start, not after.

How to Get an Accurate Plumbing Quote in London Ontario

Here’s the most efficient way to get a price from Triton:

Send photos or video first. Use your phone to take clear photos of the problem from multiple angles. A short video showing the issue in action is even better. Send them through our booking system and I can often quote you without a service call.

Describe what you’ve already tried. If you’ve attempted a repair, tell us. That context changes the assessment and helps us give you an accurate quote faster.

Be specific about what’s happening. “My toilet is running” is helpful. “My toilet runs for about 30 seconds after flushing and then stops” is more helpful. The more specific you are, the more accurate the quote.

If photos aren’t possible or the situation is unclear, book a service call. The $89 dispatch fee gets a qualified Red Seal Plumber to your door to assess and quote properly before any work starts.

FAQ About Plumber Costs in London Ontario

How much does a plumber cost in London Ontario? Triton charges an $89 dispatch fee to send a technician to your home to assess and quote the work. From there, pricing depends on the job. Straightforward repairs are quoted at a flat rate before work starts. Complex jobs are priced on time and material. Contact us with photos and we can often quote without a service call.

What is a dispatch fee and do all plumbers charge one? A dispatch fee covers the cost of sending a qualified plumber to your home before any work begins. Triton charges $89. Not all plumbers charge a dispatch fee β€” however those who don’t often build that cost into their hourly rate or flat rate pricing. Either way, getting a plumber to your door has a cost. We prefer to be transparent about it upfront.

Can I get a plumbing quote without a service call? Often yes. Send clear photos or a short video of the problem through our booking system. If the photos give us enough information, we’ll quote the job without a service call. If the situation requires an in-person assessment, we’ll let you know and quote the dispatch fee.

Why do plumbing prices vary so much between companies? Several factors affect plumbing pricing β€” the complexity of the job, the age and condition of your home’s plumbing, parts availability, and the experience level of the plumber. A Licensed Red Seal Plumber with 26 years of experience costs more per hour than an unlicensed handyman. However the work is done correctly, to code, and backed by professional liability insurance.

Is it worth trying to fix plumbing myself? For very simple tasks β€” replacing a showerhead, swapping a toilet seat β€” yes. For anything involving supply lines, drain connections, valves, or anything inside a wall β€” call a plumber first. Using the wrong materials or damaging parts during a DIY attempt often turns a small repair into a larger and more expensive one.

Does Triton offer free quotes? We offer free quotes when photos or video provide enough information to assess the job accurately. For situations requiring an in-person assessment, the $89 dispatch fee applies. That fee covers a qualified Red Seal Plumber coming to your home to properly evaluate and quote the work.
